Spotlight Blog: Rachel's Readings - Guest Post

My third choice for my Spotlight Blog is the wonderful Rachel from Rachel's-Readings. We had been speaking for a while previous to her starting up her blog and I loved her enthusiasm and the way she talked about books. After a bit of persuasion, she finally started her blog and she is now one of my favourite bloggers. I can't believe she's only been a blogger for a month because she is seriously incredible! Like all of us bloggers, she's a sucker for a good book cover. Check out some of her favourites here...

Hi, I’m Rachel and I’ve been blogging at Rachel's-Readings since the beginning of July.

I was amazed when Zoe asked me to be her third spotlight blog, but so very grateful as it seems like such a big thing for someone who hasn’t been blogging for long at all!

If any of you know me, you will know that I have a very big weakness for pretty books! So, I thought, what better post to do than a post about all the pretty covered books I’ve bought and loved!

First off I thought I’d talk about the books with so many different & beautiful covers that I just can’t help but to collect!

Alice in Wonderland is one of my biggest weaknesses when it comes to book shops, I have like 3 editions already, and with all the lovely covers I’ve seen I’m sure I’ll have a whole other bookcase filled with them eventually! (the two editions I love the most are seen below).

Also, Jane Eyre. It is my favourite classic and one of the only classics I re-read a lot, so I can’t help buying any other editions I find, such as my beautiful purple copy with a leathery cover.

A more recent addition to my bookshelf is a beautiful hardback copy of Philip Pullman’s Northern Lights trilogy, I just fell in love when I saw this cover and had to buy it (I’m sure I’ll buy many others too)!

Next on my list are books I bought for the covers, which I absolutely adored when I finally managed to read them!

Okay so, there are so many books I buy purely for the covers (though more recently I buy for both covers & recommendations from the blogging community, such as: The Sin Eaters Daughter by Melinda Salisbury – who wouldn’t be intrigued by someone in a bottle on a cover?!, and Rebel of the Sands by Alwyn Hamilton – I have a strong weakness for shiny leafs on books).

As you can see, I have a few other books too which I bought for the covers: Carve the Mark by Veronica Roth (the stunning blue cover caught my eye in the bookshop), The Gift/Pellinor Series by Alison Croggon (I love maps in books, and any maps shown on covers will instantly draw me in), Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs (who wouldn’t be intrigued by the covers of this series and the promise of other unusual pictures inside?), Wicked Lovely series by Melissa Marr (the colours on this were beautiful, as well as the leafy pattern around the authors name).

And for the final section, Kindle books and recent books I’ve bought because of amazing covers that I hope I’ll love!

So many pretty covers, so little time to read them! Yet, I buy them anyway as I have a slight addiction!

First the kindle books: Magic Bitter Magic Sweet by Charlie N. Holmberg (how sweet is this blue cover? I think I like books with thorns on them as you’ll find out), and The Hundredth Queen (I admit I’ve read this, but I’m currently re-reading this so it counts as new, I got it because it’s such a beautiful red colour, and the gold just pops out and contrasts so well!).

Now, the actual books I’ve bought that I still need to read: An Almond for a Parrot by Wray Delaney (a new buy but who can resist this beautiful textured cover, I definitely couldn’t), The Witch’s Kiss by Katharine & Elizabeth Corr (the thorn heart intrigued me and the thorns against the white background are so pretty), The Essex Serpent by Sarah Perry (yet again, it has shiny bits! Definitely addicted to shiny bits!) and Linger by Maggie Stiefvater (another case of the black against the white background catching my eye, and the small splash of red makes it even prettier!)

I could easily talk more about these lovely books, and even add more to the list, but I’d be here forever, so these are just some of the books I’m most excited about.

Have you read any of these books and loved them like I did? Or do you have any beautiful covered books that you think I may like (please feed my addiction) comment and say!

Thank you for having me Zoe!
